Let's all keep notes and assignments here so that we can build our own repository.

Anthro 140--Hayes--Spring 2022

Andrew's description of his assignment: (Also see documents linked below)

The 140 project is quite similar to the project normally done in that course, except that owing to the pandemic, only library research is required, rather than doing any physical visits to religious services. I have attached the assignment guide that I provide to the students. Research-wise, it should be fairly simple: they need four high quality resources relating to their religion of focus. Your CRAAP test is a fine rubric for source quality, though we have recently done an in-class workshop discussing special issues in anthropological research that provided more details about what we tend to look for. I have included a copy of this powerpoint this as well, in case you might find it helpful with either students or the research guide. The students in 140 - 0170, which is a ZOOM class, are the most likely to contact the library, but the students in my two asynchronous online courses, 140 - 0171 and 140 - 1227, have a similar research project assigned to them, and I have included their (slightly different) project instructions, too.

In addition, some students might need help with the writing portion of the project, as I have required an annotated bibliography to be submitted in a few week’s time.

Also, regarding citations:

I always recommend MLA to them for citations, as it seems to be the format they are most often already familiar with from high school. Professional anthropologists use Chicago Style, so on the rare occasion that I’m working with an actual Anthro major, I advise them to start learning that system.

In general, I do not grade on the basis of formatting, as long as the requirements of academic honesty are satisfied.

Anthro 102 - Bolter (FA2016)

Debi indicated that "most students find their articles through online searches rather than in-library searches."

Anthr 130 - Hayes (SP 2017)

This assignment is a lot like Susan Kerr's Anthr 130 assignment. I have a libguide for that one. They are not to research the history of a culture but the archaeological record. - Iris
