Students w/ this assignment have conflicting information about what type of sources are allowed. Originally, the instructor wanted students to use exclusively articles written by nurses (and published in nursing journals). When I emailed both the instructor and the clinical coordinator to clarify, they were not in agreement regarding this requirement.
After some back and forth emails and now finally a team meeting on 10/23/17, faculty are now in accord: students may use any healthcare-related journal, as long as it is supports evidence-based practice, for this assignment (per phone call w/ Tania Adkins, 10/23/17 2:38 pm, w/ SB).
Action: Work with students to instruct re: research process in the context of evidence-based practice in nursing. As part of that, demonstrate how to limit searches based on date, full-text, peer-review sources, subject headings. Mention how searches can be limited by author affiliation as well (i.e., option to select nurse-authored articles in CINAHL, or using the AF=nurs* limiter in search box of MEDLINE Complete). Let students decide on sources; let them know that non-nursing-specific scholarly healthcare journals are also allowed as sources for this assignment.
