Some of you already know this: You can get free access to credible news sources through the MJC Library & Learning Center's institutional subscriptions to the New York Times, Modesto Bee, and The Atlantic (and soon, the Wall Street Journal). You can access these publications through Articles & Databases, and in most cases, you can download the apps for those publications.
The Modesto Bee can be found through the Access World News database. Starting from the L & LC homepage, go to Articles & Databases and look for Access World News in the A listings. (Note: If you're logging in from off campus, you'll most likely be prompted to enter your MJC single sign-on credentials at this point.) Once at Access World News/Newsbank, choose "Modesto Bee Collection" from the right-hand menu. From the Modesto Bee page, you can search by entering a keyword into the search bar, or you can browse the Bee by date. We've created a video that shows you how to do all the above. To access The Modesto Bee in this manner, you will always have to enter through the MJC's Articles & Databases > Access World News database.
The digital version of one of the U.S.'s "papers of record" is available to you free of charge as an MJC student, staff, or faculty member. Use these instructions to access your free MJC account with The New York Times.
Since 1857, The Atlantic has maintained a national reputation as a high-quality publication with a moderate worldview. To learn how to sign-in and to download The Atlantic app, check out these instructions.
Coming to MJC soon! Our subscription to the Wall Street Journal is being processed. Instructions will appear here and in the A-Z Databases page.
