Faculty can use this guide to explore issues surrounding teaching and generative artificial intelligence

ChatGPT and Beyond

ChatGPT	Open AI Free, uses GPT-4.0 except it will revert back to GPT-3.5 if you've been asking too may questions or if traffic is high (as of July 2024). No web search results. Trained on data only through January 2022.
ChatGPT Plus	Open AI $20/mo, built on GPT-4 ChatGPT Plus has two key advantages over its free counterpart: an always-online connection and unlimited access to GPT-4o. It also includes: a "browse with Bing" feature that allows it to search for information on websites Advanced Data Analysis" (formerly Code Interpreter) GPT4-Vision (for uploading images and discussing them) Image generation with DALL-E 3. (as of Nov. 6, 2023: all these features combined into "all tools.") A new feature for building chatbots without using code. These are called "GPTs." (available to Plus users only)
Microsoft Copilot	Microsoft Free, built on GPT-4 (If you use Creative mode, Balanced mode = GPT3.5) Generate images with DALL-E 3 using Bing Image Creator or Microsoft Designer Includes web search results from Bing Search. Copilot Pro Plan with more features for individuals. Copilot for Microsoft 365 with more features for institutions and businesses.
Gemini (formerly Bard)	Google Free, built on Gemini Pro (as of Dec. 6, 2023) Includes web search results from Google. Gemini Advanced is built on Gemini Ultra ($20/mo)
Claude 2	Anthropic Focused on reliability and safety. No web search results. Trained on data only through December 2022.
Perplexity AI	Perplexity Free, built on GPT-3.5. Includes web search results. Offers "Focus" choices such as YouTube, Reddit, Semantic Scholar ,and Wolfram\|Alpha. You can use it without creating an account. Pro account ($20/mo) allows a choice between several models: GPT-4, Claude 2.1, Gemini Pro, and more.
ResearchRabbit	ResearchRabbit free, "Citation-based literature mapping tool." It connects your research interests to related articles and authors.
Elicit	Ought Free Built on GPT-3 Research Assistant
Consensus	Consensus Free and with upgrades Built on GPT-4 Academic search engine powered by AI
Semantic Scholar	Allen Institute for Artificial Intelligence Free Research tool for scientific literature
Dall-E 3	OpenAI Dall-E 3 is available only through the premium ChatGPT Plus service at $20 per month Turns a text prompt into an image. Chosen as CNET top AI image generator of 2024.
Leonardo.AI	Leonardo.Ai Free It was originally meant to help folks create gaming assets, but it's now a full-scale AI content creation service, with AI video creation and editing services in addition to image tools.
Adobe Firefly	Adobe Part of Adobe Creative Cloud software subscription. Sophisticated tool for generative AI image creation.
Canva - Magic Media	Canva Free with upgrade plans. Free plan has a hard limit on how many images you can create. Magic Media is a great option for amateur AI creators. Magic Media is a minimalist service, which isn’t great if you need extensive editing tools, but it’s great for folks on a budget and time crunch.
Midjourney AI	Midjourney AI Free with upgrade plans. Generate AI-powered images through text.
