Appointments (In-Person & Online)

The MJC Library & Learning Center has peer tutors in a wide variety of subjects from writing to math. You can work with a tutor either in-person or online during our regular hours. Appointments are required for tutoring except for Math tutoring (see below).

You can also access NetTutor, our online tutoring platform available to MJC students free of charge. For prompt service in NetTutor, we highly recommend you  select STAR-CA, to see if a California Community College tutor is available in your desired subject.

Library & Learning Center Philosophy

MJC Library & Learning Center (L & LC) is a vital part of the campus community and actively empowers students to become effective and independent learners so they may achieve personal and academic success.  The L & LC fully supports the mission of the college.

The goals of our Tutoring Program are to:

  1. Empower each student to become an effective and independent learner
  2. Recognize that students serving as peer tutors are students first and foremost
  3. Embody the L & LC values and Equity Statement
  4. Provide a robust training program for students serving as peer tutors so they may
    1. Serve as powerful models on how to learn
    2. Develop metacognition
    3. Foster a growth mindset
    4. Tend to their physical, emotional, social, financial, and educational well-being so they may view their peers holistically, too
    5. Navigate college for themselves and assist others in their academic journeys
    6. Recognize and celebrate diversity in all its forms

Tutors Are

  • Here to empower you to succeed
  • Role models who help students understand course content, go over homework exercises, and share learning strategies that help you prepare for tests and assignments
  • Students who have earned a high B or A and have been recommended by their instructors for classes they tutor
  • Students too, so they have flexible schedules to accommodate our students' needs
