Tutoring & Writing Center

Get the help you need when you need it.

What is the Writing Center?

Writing Center

The Writing Center is the part of the Library & Learning Center where students can get help with all aspects of the writing process.

What You Can Expect From The Writing Center

You will work one-on-one with a trained tutor. Any currently-registered MJC student can make an appointment to work with a tutor on any aspect of writing including:

  • Understanding your assignment or research prompt
  • Brainstorming paper ideas
  • Discussing grammar
  • Learning to recognize errors in punctuation, and more

Trained tutors will help you with your writing but will not write your paper for you. They will empower you to be a more skillful writer.

NetTutor

NetTutornettutor‚Äč

NetTutor is an online tutoring platform that is available to all Modesto Junior College students as a supplementary tutoring service for students who cannot utilize MJC's math and English tutoring services during the days and hours in which MJC tutoring is available.

For Math and Writing Tutoring Only: NetTutor is available to MJC students when our Tutoring/Writing Center is closed. See our hours here. During these times, you will also be unable to view your previous sessions and pick up your papers from the locker. To view those sessions, return during a time when NetTutor is available. For other subjects, NetTutor is available 24/7.

You'll find NetTutor in the course navigation menu of your Canvas courses. (Note: If you don't see it in one course, check another one or ask your teacher).

The subjects include Accounting, Administration of Justice, Anatomy and Physiology, Anthropology, Astronomy, Biology, Business, Chemistry, Child Development, Communications and Speech, Computer Science and IT, Economics, English Literature, Finance, French, FYE & College Student Success, Geology, German, History, Italian, Logic, Math (Algebra, Basic Math, Pre-Calculus and above, Statistics, Probability, and Math in Spanish), Music, Nursing and Health, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sociology, Spanish, and Writing.

You can meet with a live tutor, drop off a paper and get feedback from a writing tutor, or drop off a question (during hours that the MJC tutoring and writing center is closed).
