Visiting the Library & Learning Center

Library & Learning Center

The Modesto Junior College Library & Learning Centers (MJC and L&LC, respectively) are publically-funded and open to the public with the understanding that our focus is on supporting student success and the academic mission of the college. While many of our resources and services are available to all, some are limited to current MJC students and employees for practical and legal reasons.

On East campus, the L & LC is located in on North Drive in the Library & Learning Center building.

On West campus, the L & LC is located in Yosemite Hall, Room 235.

Using the Collections

Members of the public are welcome to visit the L&LC and use our print and online resources as needed and as available inside the Centers. In order to check out books and other physical materials to take home, members of the public will need to become a Friend of the Library. Because of contractual obligations, off-campus access to our online resources is restricted to students, faculty, and staff.

Become a Friend of the Library

The Friends of the MJC Library is a support group that focuses attention on the needs of the library, promotes its usefulness, and generates funding for library materials, equipment, or services. You can join the Friends at either an annual or lifetime membership class level. Your donation is tax-deductible.

As a Friend of the Library you will be able to:

  • Borrow up to five items from the library’s collection
  • Utilize the intercampus loan program between both campuses and Columbia College
  • Utilize interlibrary loan services at lifetime membership class levels
  • Benefit from the services of the reference librarians
  • Access all our electronic resources while visiting the library, including over 50 subscription databases and 14,000 online books
  • Use the MJC wireless Internet connection if you bring a laptop computer with a wireless connection to the library
  • Know the satisfaction of investing in the MJC Library while serving the college and community

Become a Friend now! Simply print, complete, and return the form below.

Computer Use

L&LC computers are available on a first-come, first-served basis and are to be used primarily for educational purposes. The public is welcome to use computers and will be directed to those computers not requiring student login. In times of high use, patrons using computers for work that is not educational in nature may be asked to vacate the computer workstation.

While the college does not typically filter or block content (other than to prevent malware, spyware and other attacks on college systems), computer use may be monitored as required by law and YCCD district policy.

Research Help

Librarians are available to help with research. Because the collections at MJC are to serve our academic programs, visitors may find the resources at the public library more useful.
