Creating Comments

Provide Immediate and Continuous Feedback

Providing comments within student projects is a great way to give immediate feedback to students as they progress through their research process.

When you open projects that students have shared with you, you view them in read-only mode; you can view but not modify students' citations, notecards, and outlines. Even though you can't edit citations, notecards, or outlines, you can add comments to help your students at each stage of their research.

The one exception to this rule is if a student shares a paper that she has composed in Google Docs with you, you have full edit privilege, allowing you to write comments and/or corrections directly on the paper in Google Docs. To collaborate on papers composed in Google Docs you'll need to have a Google Account.

Where to Make Comments

You can make comments within your students’ projects from several different places:

  • You can make general comments about a project from a student's project Dashboard screen
  • You can make comments on specific citations and notecards from the Bibliography, and Notecard screens.

How to Provide General Feedback on a Project (See NoodleTools videos: Viewing Shared Projects and Viewing Students' Projects)

  1. Log in to NoodleTools
  2. Click on the name of the appropriate Assignment Drop Box under Projects Shared with Me in order to see the projects shared with you
  3. Open the project by clicking on the project’s description
  4. Click the Add a comment button at the top of the Comments box
  5. Type your comment into the Comment Text box
  6. Click Submit
  7. Your students will see your comments in the Comments box at the bottom of their Dashboard screens.

How to Provide Feedback on Citations and Notecards (see NoodleTools video)

  1. Log in to NoodleTools
  2. Click on the name of the appropriate Assignment Drop Box under Projects Shared with Me in order to see the projects shared with you
  3. Open the project by clicking on the project’s description
  4. Click Bibliography in either the Components Box
  5. Enter a comment into the Citation comment box below the citation then click the Submit button
  6. If you want to comment on a notecard be sure you have clicked Show in the Notecards column and scroll down to see the Notecard Comment box
  7. When commenting on notecards, you either type your comment into the notecard comment box or choose predefined comments that you can customize. To choose predefined comments, begin by choosing the Select comments from the comment database link underneath the notecard comment box. You can then select predefined comments from NoodleBib's notecard comment database. For example, to choose the first comment simply select it by clicking in the box to its left, then clicking Submit. You can Edit the comment, Delete it, or leave it as is
  8. Your students will see your comments in two places: in the Comments box at the bottom of their Dashboard screens or within their Bibliography and Notecards areas.
